Irina Mashinski holds an MFA from New England College and completed work for a PhD from Moscow State University. Her work in Russian has been translated into several languages, and her poetry has appeared in various major literary journals and anthologies. She is co-editor of the The Penguin Book of Russian Poetry (2015) as well as co-founder and editor-in-chief of the StoSvet/Cardinal Points literary project, which includes the Cardinal Points and Storony Sveta/Стороны света journals and the Compass Translation Award. She has received Russian literary awards and, with Boris Dralyuk, First Prize in the 2012 Joseph Brodsky/Stephen Spender Translation Prize competition. She is the author of nine books of poetry and translation in Russian, and her first English-language collection is forthcoming from Spuyten Duyvil.
