Local Affiliation

CES Local Affiliates and their scholarship play an important role in the Center’s mission of fostering a dynamic community of Boston-area scholars interested in Europe.

Local Affiliates are actively engaged in CES Seminars, CES events, and student mentoring. Local Affiliates are established scholars whose work focuses on modern Europe and who have an academic appointment at a local institution of higher education and reside permanently within 45 miles of Cambridge.

Local affiliation does not constitute a Harvard University appointment and is not accompanied by any privileges such as a Harvard University ID, office space at CES, access to fitness or other facilities, or library privileges.

Application Process

In order to be considered for local affiliation, candidates are expected to have been actively engaged and involved at CES for one year prior to submitting their application. The application should include the following materials:

  • Current CV
  • Cover letter requesting affiliation and describing your current institutional position(s)/academic appointment(s) outside of CES
  • Description of current work
  • Letter of recommendation

The application cycle for the 2024-2025 academic year has closed.

Any additional questions pertaining to local affiliation can be directed to CES Program Manager Albana Shehaj.
