After Brexit and the US presidential elections, and populist tendencies elsewhere, a sense of crisis has developed, particularly in the Western world. Some speak of fundamental challen­ges to the inter­national ru­le-based order, as it has been constructed after the Second World War. Is there rea­son to ask whether the international legal order is in decline, due to broadly-based developments? Or are we just seeing bumps-in-the-road of a long-term pro­gressive development of international law?
