Trump Administration in the White House increased the need for the EU to define more clearly and forcefully its position in the world and its role as the defender of human rights, more prominent because of the new American administration.
In this Seminar, a panel of leading academics from the FRAME research team will present their findings against the backdrop of extraordinary human rights challenges facing the EU. These challenges put into question the EU's self-perception that it can play the part of global human rights champion in a new world order. The panel will address the EU's emergency measures in response to the migration crisis and its stringent regime to combat the financial crisis in the Euro Area, issues that have divided Europe and demonstrated a degree of incoherence in its commitment to human rights. Speakers will also discuss the EU-US relationship in the age of Trump and how it will impact EU and US leadership on human rights and how EU can use its influence at the UN to further its human rights objectives in the light of this evolving relationship.
