The inaugural Stanley Hoffmann Annual Lecture on France and the World was delivered by Thomas Piketty, professor at the School for Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences (EHESS) and the Paris School of Economics. Piketty discussed his book Capital and Ideology (The Belnap Press of Harvard University Press, 2020). Piketty's books Capital in the Twenty-First Century and Capital and Ideology were translated into English by CES Affiliate Arthur Goldhammer.

The Stanley Hoffmann Annual Lecture on France and the World was established by the Minda de Gunzburg Center for European Studies (CES) to honor the legacy of Professor Stanley Hoffmann, founding chairman of CES and eminent academic and lecturer on Europe at Harvard University.
