Biography
Thanasis Kontogeorgis graduated from Athens College and then studied Law at the University of Athens. He continued his postgraduate studies in public policy and administration at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. He is a lawyer of the Supreme Court and the Council of State, with many years of experience.
Kontogeorgis served as a legal and strategy adviser to the Greek government (2010-2014), providing support to the Prime Minister's Office, to the Minister of Finance, the Ministry of Culture and the General Secretariat of the Government. He was actively involved in the negotiations with the European Commission, the IMF and the ECB as member of the negotiations team and in drafting a number of bills on tax legislation, business and the banking system among others.
He was a member of the Government Private Debt Management Council, and contributed to the formation of a first framework for private debt management. For three years he served as Vice President of the National Supervisory Authority "Accounting Standardization and Audit Committee." In July 2019 Kontogeorgis was appointed by the Prime Minister as General Secretary for the Coordination of Internal Policies at the Presidency of the Government.
