Sonja Grassmugg is a Ph.D. student in modern European history at Harvard University, focusing on the legal and cultural history of insurgency and counter-insurgency in the British Empire. Grassmugg received her bachelor's degree from the University of Leeds in 2016, where she won the School of History Outstanding Achievement Award, as well as the John Le Patourel Prize for her dissertation. She was also awarded the Robert Owen Bishop Studentship from Christ's College at Cambridge University, where she obtained her MPhil in modern British history in 2017.
