Empowering Voices Beyond Ballots? Representative Claims by Non-Elected Political Actors.
Lennart Schürmann is a postdoctoral research fellow at the WZB Berlin Social Science Center. His research studies the intersection between political participation and representation research with a particular focus on protests. Schürmann previously held visiting scholar positions at Pompeu Fabra University and the University of Amsterdam.
At the Minda de Gunzburg Center for European Studies (CES), Schürmann will investigate how social movement activists claim representation (supply side) and how citizens perceive these representative claims (demand side). By emphasizing the performative dimension of representation, his project bridges the divide between innovative theoretical literature on representation and the literature focused on social movements.
Schürmann received his Ph.D. in political science from the University of Cologne.
This information is accurate for the time period that the visiting scholar is affiliated with CES.
