The social inclusiveness of political parties in Europe
Javier Martínez-Cantó is the inaugural Ramón Areces Fellow at the Minda de Gunzburg Center for European Studies (CES). Martínez-Cantó is a postdoctoral researcher at the Barcelona Institute of International Studies and a member of the Quality of Democracy Research Group at the University of Barcelona. Previously, Martínez-Cantó worked as a postdoctoral researcher and interim professor of comparative politics at University of Konstanz.
Martínez-Cantó’s research is focused on political representation, party politics, and the territorial distribution of power. He obtained his Ph.D. in 2021 at University of Bamberg. His dissertation received the Juan Linz Prize from the Centro de Estudios Políticos y Constitucionales (CEPC), an agency associated with the Ministry for the Presidency of Spain, as well as the Hans-Löwel-Preise from University of Bamberg.
During his tenure at CES, Martínez-Cantó will study the institutional, political, and societal conditions upon which political parties become more inclusive or exclusive towards political minorities such as women, ethnic minorities, or the working class.
