Andrew Bellisari is a PhD student in modern European history at Harvard University. He concentrates in the history of French colonialism in North Africa and the Middle East. His research explores the political and cultural processes (and consequences) of decolonization in the French empire—particularly Algeria—by examining the on-the-ground negotiations that took place between local actors and French colonial officials over property, patrimony, and people.
