Biography

Aline-Florence Manent

Aline-Florence Manent is a PhD student in history at Harvard University. Her academic interests lie at the intersection between intellectual history and the history of political culture and institutions in modern Europe. Her dissertation reconstructs competing projects for democratic reconstruction and reconceptualization in post-war West Germany. In this work, Manent investigates the different ways in which social theorists, economists, constitutional lawyers, and politicians have theorized on democracy, and how their ideas shaped the political culture, practice, and institutions of the Federal Republic of Germany.
