Wim Weymans

Weymans is a political theorist who is currently a postdoctoral fellow of the research foundation - Flanders (FWO) at Leuven University. He was a visiting scholar at UC Berkeley, NYU and Columbia University, where he also taught human rights theory and history. He studied philosophy and history and specializes in European historical and political thought post-1968. He is currently writing a book, which argues how contemporary French theorists like Lefort, Gauchet and Rosanvallon show different ways why societies depend on politics. While at the CES - from January till December 2012 - he will finish this book and develop an alternative interpretation of the plight of undocumented migrants by revising Agamben’s concept of the state of exception.
