Steinbach is civil servant at the German Ministry of Economics and works currently in the advisory group of Frank-Walter Steinmeier, former German foreign minister, in the German parliament. Steinbach is author of books on economic policy and published in German newspapers including Süddeutsche Zeitung, Handelsblatt and Die Zeit. He has also published on legal and economic issues in Journal of International Economic Law, Columbia Journal of European Law, Journal of World Trade, and other journals. Steinbach received his doctorate from the Ludwig-Maximilians Universität of Munich in 2007. He is currently working on a project that examines the possible coordination of economic policies in the European Union. He will be in residence at CES from September through December 2012.
