Kelly Grieco is a PhD student in political science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Her dissertation, entitled “War by Coalition: The Effects of Institutionalization on Coalition Military Performance,” seeks to account for variation in the military performance of coalitions and alliances on the battlefield. She argues that coalition military effectiveness, defined as a coalition’s ability to generate maximum war-fighting capabilities from its material resources, depends on both the degree and form of coalition military institutionalization. Her primary research interests are coalition warfare, military doctrine, European Security and Defense Policy (ESDP), and third-party military interventions.
