Alex Sagan is primarily interested in twentieth-century cultural, intellectual, and political history, in addition to current affairs. His research emphasizes the experience of Jews in modern Europe with particular attention to the Nazi period and its aftermath. He is currently working on a book about Anne Frank and popular culture in the United States, the Netherlands, and Germany. His other national interests include Spain, Portugal, France, and Israel. At CES, Sagan was co-chair of the Jews in Modern Europe seminar until 2017.
