Hofhansel is professor of political science at Rhode Island College. He has published articles on European integration, German foreign policy, export control policy, the politics of naturalization in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, and religion-state institutions in Europe, which have appeared in Journal of Church and State, West European Politics, International Migration Review, Comparative Political Studies, German Politics, Arms Control, Journal of Public Policy, and International Studies Quarterly (with J. Jacobsen). He is the author of Commercial Competition and National Security: Comparing US and German Export Control Policies (1996) and Multilateralism, German Foreign Policy and Central Europe (2005). His current research focuses on citizenship and immigration in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, and religion-state institutions in Europe.
