While the long-run evolution of commercial banking has received widespread attention in recent decades, relatively little is know about insurance. To fill this gap, Sebastian Kohl and Kaspar Zimmermann have introduced a new, long-run database on the life insurance industry stretching 145 years and 17 advanced economies. In this presentation, Kohl will discuss the contributions of their paper.
