This talk departs from the gap in IR and EU scholarship on unintended consequences and makes the case for the importance of studying the phenomenon in an international context. It provides a conceptualization of unintended consequences and addresses a set of questions highlighting the nature (what), the causes (why) and the modes of management (how) of unintended consequences of EU external action. This talk will engage with conceptual and empirical dimensions of the topic, as well as scholarly and policy implications thereof. For more information, please refer to the abstract.
