In this seminar Martina Dieckhoff will present her research
on income inequality among couples in East and West Germany. Drawing on household data from 1992-2016, the research has three goals: (1) analyze how the earnings
gap among couples has developed over time, given institutional change. It also assesses whether the extent of inequality and temporal development varies between East and
West Germany; (2) explore variations in the earnings gap by male partners’
positioning in the income distribution; and finally (3) investigate the
micro-level determinants of earnings inequalities among couples and whether
their relevance varies between East and West Germany as well as by male
partners’ income.
