In his address “Europe beyond the financial crisis” President Zapatero will narrate his experience as Spanish Prime Minister during the economic and financial crisis and the subsequent euro crisis, offering an explanation of the events that took place in these turbulent times. As a convinced pro-European, President Zapatero will also make a committed defense of the European Union’s raison d’être, likening the European Union’s existence to the Founding Fathers’ project of the United States of America. He will conclude offering a social-democratic vision for the European Union’s future as it recovers from the crisis and how the nation-states must move forward, as the most singular economic block on earth for the well-being of their peoples.
