Natalie Behrends

Natalie Behrends is a doctoral candidate in History working on the global history of labor and migration in the long nineteenth century. Her research centers on patterns of labor radicalism and organization in migrations between Europe and the Americas from 1864-1924, with a particular focus on labor and theories of citizenship, organized labor and language policy, and the Second International.

Behrends entered the History Ph.D. program at Harvard University in 2019. She holds a B.A. in History from NYU, and her previous work focused on the role of migrant workers in the Socialist Party of America, and the development of internationalism as an ideology within turn-of-the-century socialism.

At the Minda de Gunzburg Center for European Studies, Behrends chairs the Jews in Modern Europe Seminar.
