Biography

Hongcai Xu

Hongcai Xu is the Deputy Director of the information department of the China Center for International Economic Exchanges. In 2012 he was a Visiting Scholar at the Institute of Asian Research of the University of British Columbia, Canada. From 2003–2010 he was professor of finance at Capital University of Economics and Businesses, director of the Center for Securities and Futures Studies, and a Visiting Scholar at the Business School of Dominican University in 2008. From 2001–2003 Xu served as senior vice president of Beijing Venture Capital Co., Ltd. From 1998–2001 he was general manager of GuangFa Securities Co., Ltd (Shanghai Branch), and from 1996–1998 he was officer of People’s Bank of China. He received a PhD in economics from the Graduate School of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (1996), and an MA in philosophy from the Renmin University of China (1993). From 1981–1990 he was engineer of China Petro-Chemical Group, after attending Anhui Chemical Industry School from 1978–1981. His books include Globalizing China’s Economy (2012), Wages, Exchanges Rate and Surplus (2011), Futures and derivatives (2011), Financial Strategies of China (2010) Research on the System and Supervision of Chinese Multilayer Market (2009), and Investment Banking (2005, 2002, 1999, 1997). His fields of interest include international economics, monetary policy, and the financial market. His current research focuses on the European debt crisis and EU-China economic relations.
