Kirsten Scheiwe is professor of law at Hildesheim University, Germany. She works mainly in the areas of family law, social law and legal comparison and investigates law in the social context from the perspectives of interdisciplinary and comparative legal analysis and gender studies. She received her PhD from the European University Institute, Florence. She is editor of Childcare and Preschool Development in Europe-Institutional Perspectives (with H. Willekens, 2009). Her current research investigates different paths of institutional change in early childhood education from the late nineteenth century onwards, investigating the relevance of broader societal factors in relation to institutional factors. She will be in residence at CES from March to August 2010.
