Madureira is professor in economic and social history at the University of Lisbon, ISCTE, and has been a visiting scholar at Berkeley University. Since 2006 he has been adviser and referee of the European Foundation of Science and of international reviews in the domain of business and economic history. His research interests include the political economy of energy and social science methodology. Madureira is the author of articles and books on the history of energy, electrification and economic policy. He was also a collaborator in the International Encyclopedia of Social Sciences (2008). At present, he is working on a project on the political economy of energy in Europe. Madureira will be in residence at CES from September 2008 through January 2009.
