Lau is foreign affairs correspondent in the Berlin office of the German weekly DIE ZEIT. Prior to this, he acted as a Berlin correspondent for the paper focusing on the issues of immigration, integration and Muslims in Europe. He started his journalistic career with the Berlin daily Die Tageszeitung where he served as book review editor. In 1999 he published a biography of the German poet and intellectual Hans Magnus Enzensberger (Suhrkamp). As a Bucerius fellow at CES, he will examine the American way of dealing with religion in public life as a possible model for European societies. A second project explores the conditions for a renewed transatlantic partnership in the post-Bush-era.
