Haughton is senior lecturer in the politics of Central and Eastern Europe at Birmingham University in the UK. His research interests include party politics, the role of the past in present politics, and the interaction between European and domestic politics. He is the author of Constraints and Opportunities of Leadership in Post-Communist Europe (2005) and has published inter alia in Europe-Asia Studies, The Journal of Communist Studies and Transition Politics, Party Politics and West European Politics. During his time at Harvard in the fall semester 2008-2009, he will be working on a project examining national preference formation in three new EU Member States: Slovakia, Slovenia and the Czech Republic.
