Press's dissertation is a global history of the chartered company revival in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. He has previously published articles on the subjects of Guantanamo Bay and German nationalism. His publications include “False Fire: The Wartburg Book-Burning of 1817” in Central European History (2009); and “Sovereignty at Guantanamo, New Evidence and a Comparative Historical Perspective,” in The Journal of Modern History (2013).
