Biography

Michael A. Baum

Baum teaches comparative politics at the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth and is an executive board member of its Center for Portuguese Studies and Culture. He publishes on Portuguese political behavior, attitudes, and electoral politics, with a recent focus on gender quotas in Portugal. He has published articles in the European Journal of Political Research, West European Politics, South European Society and Politics, various edited volumes, and a number of Portuguese social science journals. Presently he is director of UMass in Lisbon, a new year-round study abroad program in Lisbon that started in fall 2012 and is open to students from anywhere.
