Maria Koinova

Biography

Koinova is assistant professor at the University of Amsterdam. She obtained her PhD from the European University Institute (2005) and was awarded fellowships from the BCSIA at Harvard, Cornell, and Dartmouth. Her book Between Violence and Quiet Perseverance: Ethno-national Conflicts in Kosovo, Macedonia, and Bulgaria is under advanced contract with University of Pennsylvania Press. Koinova has articles published or forthcoming in Review of International Studies, Ethnic and Racial Studies, Communist and Post-communist Studies, Europe-Asia Studies, and Nationalism and Ethnic Politics. She will join CES in January 2011, working on a comparative project on transnational diaspora mobilization during the emergence of new states. Cases include the Albanian, Armenian, and Palestinian diasporas and their links to Kosovo, Nagorno-Karabakh, and Palestine.
