Young-sun Hong

Hong is associate professor of history at State University of New York at Stony Brook. She is currently completing a book manuscript that examines how the Cold War rivalry between the two Germanys became intertwined with Third World struggles for national liberation and development. By exploring the (geo)political and socioeconomic dynamics at both ends of this global linkage, her work charts the intermeshing of the histories of the two Germanys and the newly independent countries of Africa and Asia from the 1950s through the 1970s. Hong will be in residence at CES during the academic year of 2010–2011.
