Gerald Steinacher

Historian, Joseph A. Schumpeter Fellow

Biography

Steinacher (PhD, 1999) is a historian and archivist at the Bolzano State Archives (Suedtiroler Landesarchiv) in Italy and a lecturer of contemporary history at the University of Innsbruck (Austria). In 2006 he was a Research Fellow at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington DC. Steinacher is currently a Joseph A. Schumpeter Research Fellow in Harvard and will be in residence at the Center for European Studies until September 2011. His postdoctoral thesis (Habilitation) “Nazis on the Run. How Hitler\'s Henchmen Fled Justice” will be published in spring 2011 by Oxford University Press. He is currently working on a new book about the history of the International Committee of the Red Cross between 1939 and 1950.
