Biography

Juliet Wagner

Wagner is a lecturer in history and literature at Harvard. She wrote her dissertation on the use of film and photography to document "shell shock" and its symptoms during World War I. Her research explores the medical and intellectual contexts in which a connection between film and mental illness developed and seeks to understand how they were affected by war trauma in France, Germany, and Britain. Wagner is also interested in how these medical films influenced and were influenced by early cinema.
