Join Mari Sanchez to compare how "non-white meta-categories" - terms such as “People of Color” (POC) and “Black and Minority Ethnic” (BME) - are used in the U.S. and the UK. By analyzing public discussions about these terms and interviewing activists, intellectuals, and other public figures in each country, Sanchez explores how these terms have been used since the 1960s and argues that that "non-white meta-categories" shape assumptions about the commonalities and differences of marginalized communities, illuminate certain racial inequalities while obscuring others, and inform pathways to achieve interracial solidarity and racial justice.
