This session features three innovative recent comparative
studies of the marginalization, stigmatization and discrimination of
Muslims in various European settings: Mosques in the Metropolis(2021); Covering Muslims(2021); and L'épreuve de la discrimination (2021). Drawing on ethnographic data,
interviews, surveys and textual analysis, the authors challenge Eurocentric
notions about freedom and equality to reveal current manifestations of the marginality of Muslims in European cities, regions, and nations. This
session should be of interest to social scientists wishing to update their understanding of the changing boundaries of European societies.
