As the largest urban area in southeastern Europe and one of the oldest continuously inhabited settlements in the world, the city of Athens faces a future that is both exciting and challenging. In its two centuries as the capital of Greece, the city has shown ingenuity and pragmatism in absorbing new arrivals and changing social realities. The sprawling metropolis now includes Europe's biggest sea passenger terminal and one of the Mediterranean's largest commercial ports. High-tech startups have burgeoned as the ease of doing business improves. At the same time, climate change and shifting geopolitical pressures may test the city's famous resilience. Join us for a discussion with Bruce Clark, author of Athens: City of Wisdom, as he delves into the past and reflects on the factors which have underpinned Athens and Attica as a cradle of human energy, ingenuity and talent.
