The heatwaves and wildfires across Europe and the United States are sobering reminders of the effects of climate change. This seminar will highlight ways in which city governments are creating collaborative solutions to address physical and social resilience and encourage social proximity to reduce the carbon footprint in the face of extreme heat. A particular focus will be on initiatives in Athens. The discussion will be led by Eleni Myrivili, who was appointed as Europe’s first “Chief Heat Officer” for the City of Athens, and Amy Chester, who directs an organization that assists more than 100 cities around the world prepare for climate vulnerabilities.
