Social media platforms have become the de facto arbiters of freedom of speech online. As corporate entities responsible for increasing shareholder value, their effectiveness in moderating speech is influenced by their need to meet their business goals.

The speakers will outline how constitutional orders in the U.S. and Europe impose barriers on moderating online content. They will assess how internal policy decisions of multinational companies may redefine freedom of expression. They will also evaluate the effectiveness of current laws and policies on both sides of the Atlantic and recommend policy steps that lawmakers should consider for the future.
