Can digital platforms be inclusive? In principle, the equal access offered by digital platforms should allow for a democratization of their benefits. However, while these platforms can open more opportunities and visibility, they also place checks and controls on creative labor and can obscure marginalized identities. The panelists will present empirical lessons from their work that illustrate the complexities of the paradox and discuss future research directions for inclusion and exclusion in platform economies in the European context and globally.
