The Legal Construction of Speech Markets
Christian Neumeier is a postdoctoral researcher at the faculty of law at Humboldt University of Berlin. His current research focuses on freedom of speech, fiscal rules, central banks, and the legal structure of the European Economic and Monetary Union.
At the Minda de Gunzburg Center for European Studies (CES), Neumeier will examine how the political economy of speech has changed over the past two decades. This project explores what it means to treat free speech as a democratic right and analyzes the way disinformation, hate speech, and the erosion of public discourse create regulatory challenges around the structure and governance of speech markets.
Neumeier holds a Ph.D. in law from Humboldt University of Berlin and an LL.M. from Yale Law School. During his Ph.D. studies, he was a visiting researcher at Harvard Law School and University of Oxford. As part of his legal training, he worked at the Federal Republic of Germany’s Constitutional Court and the Chancellery.
This information is accurate for the time period that the visiting scholar is affiliated with CES.
