Jason Beckfield is professor of sociology at Harvard. His current research focuses on the consequences of regional integration in Europe for economic inequality and the welfare state. The first article from this project, “European Integration and Income Inequality,” appeared in the American Sociological Review in 2006. Beckfeld is currently writing a book on the same topic, tentatively titled Re-Stratifying Europe: How Regionalization Restructures Welfare States and Remaps Inequality in the European Union. His other areas of inquiry include the evolving social structure of the world polity, the relationship between political and economic globalization, the topography of the world city system, and the comparative sociology of health inequalities.
