Jason Beckfield is Robert G. Stone Jr. Professor of Sociology at Harvard University. His current research focuses on the consequences of regional integration in Europe for economic inequality and the welfare state. The first article from this project, “European Integration and Income Inequality,” appeared in the American Sociological Review in 2006. One of Beckfeld's recent books is on the same topic, titled Unequal Europe: Regional Integration and the Rise of European Inequality(Oxford University Press, 2019). His other areas of inquiry include the evolving social structure of the world polity, the relationship between political and economic globalization, the topography of the world city system, and the comparative sociology of health inequalities.
