CES encourages eligible scholars from all social science disciplines (including history) whose work is related to modern Europe. Applications are judged on the quality and significance of the proposed project and the applicant’s record of achievement and promise. The Fellowship provides a generous stipend for ten months of continuous residential research at CES from September to June. Accepted candidates will join fellow Europe-focused scholars from around the world as part of the Center's Visiting Scholars Program.
Fellowships for European Scholars
The Minda de Gunzburg Center for European Studies offers four fellowships to bring highly accomplished European social scientists to undertake research at Harvard University for one academic year.
Björn Bremer, Tobias Wille, Isabel Maria Habicht, Marcin Wroński, and Alberto López Ortega received fellowships from CES for the 2024-2025 academic year.
Prospective scholars, who are citizens of a European country, an EU member state, Germany, or Spain, may be eligible to apply for one of these CES fellowships:
- German Kennedy Memorial Fellowship (for citizens of EU member states).
- Guido Goldman Fellowship (for citizens of a European country).
- John F. Kennedy Memorial Fellowship (for citizens of the Federal Republic of Germany).
- Ramón Areces Fellowship (for citizens of Spain).
Applications for the Visiting Scholars Program 2026-2027 are open and will close on December 14, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. (EST).
Note: Applications for the John F. Kennedy Memorial Fellowship are open via the DAAD and will close on November 25, 2025.
