As Germany adjusts to a new
governing coalition of Christian Democrats and Social Democrats, the government
of Chancellor Friedrich Merz has already begun to leave a mark. The
first 150 days have brought both opportunities and challenges — shaping
Germany’s role in Europe, its transatlantic relationship, and its response to
global economic and security pressures.
In this conversation,
award-winning journalist Vladimir Balzer will reflect on the early trajectory
of the Merz government, what it signals for Germany’s domestic and foreign
policy priorities, and how these developments resonate across the Atlantic.
