The COVID-19 crisis has, yet again, demonstrated the pertinence of a robust and resilient public sector. In mid-June, the European Union's heads of governments launched the Next Generation EU program, a €750 billion common effort, coordinated by the European Commission, to face-up to the crisis. Remarkably, almost €400 billion of the plan will be disbursed as grants and the whole program will be funded by jointly issued debt, which is a first.

CES is honored to host a discussion about these issues with Marco Buti, head of cabinet of the European commissioner for economic affairs and taxation. In 2017, Buti was one of the masterminds behind the White Paper on the Future of the Economic and Monetary Union (EMU).
