Rafał Trzaskowski was elected Mayor of Warsaw in 2018 and reelected in 2024 for a second term.
Prior to becoming Mayor, Trzaskowski was a former Member of Parliament, Member of the European Parliament, and Vice-Chair of the European People’s Party. In 2020, Trzaskowski was the Civic Platform’s candidate for the Presidency of Poland. In 2014, he served as the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland and oversaw governmental European policy. He was involved in key EU negotiations such as sanctions against Russia and energy security. In 2013, Trzaskowski was Minister for Administration and Digitalization in the Cabinet of PM Donald Tusk where he was responsible for digitization.
Trzaskowski obtained his Ph.D. in political science from the University of Warsaw in 2004. He is a Member of the European Committee of Regions and an analyst at the Natolin European Center.
