Oliver Schmolke has had a long standing career in various parts of Germany's government. He currently serves as Vice Chief of Staff for the Office of Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier. Since 2017 he has also been Director for General Domestic Policy and Strategy for the President's office. Previously, Schmolke was Director General for Political Staff and Policy Planning at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy and an adviser to the vice chancellor from 2013-2017. He has published articles on social liberal traditions and progressive political alliances in Germany.
