Thomas König finished his PhD in 2009 at the University of Vienna on academic exchange programs as a means of cultural diplomacy in post-war Austria. From 2010 to 2013, he worked as Scientific Advisor to the president of the European Research Council. This job meant a radical change in his professional life: From the sleepy reflections on the history of science policy he was caught up in the dynamics of policy-making at European level. Fascinated by the odd dialectics that inevitably emerge at the interface of the world of science and the world of politics, König will use his stay at CES to apply what he learned and witnessed at the ERC to an academic study on European research politics.
