While global and colonial history have become increasingly important in German academic research, the issues came to the forefront of public attention as the Black Lives Matter Movement reverberated in Germany and across Europe. Anna Sauerbrey will assess how the rediscovery of the country's colonial past has impacted Germany’s domestic and foreign policy as the country is redefining its role in Europe and around the world.
