Biography

Vuk Jeremić

Vuk Jeremić is the President of People’s Party – Serbia’s center-right, liberal-conservative opposition party. He is also the President of the Center for International Relations and Sustainable Development (CIRSD), a leading public policy think tank in Southeast Europe.

In 1999, Mr. Jeremic was one of the founders of “Otpor”, a student resistance movement that was crucial to the overthrow of the regime of Slobodan Milošević.

He served as Adviser to the President and subsequently for two terms as Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia (2007-2012).

In 2012, Mr. Jeremić was directly elected by the majority of world’s nations to be the President of the 67th session of the UN General Assembly, in the first contested vote since the end of the Cold War.

In 2016, Mr. Jeremić participated in the official election for UN Secretary-General. After six rounds of voting, he finished the race in second place, behind Mr. Antonio Guterres.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in physics from Cambridge University and a master’s degree in Public Administration/International Development from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government.

He served as the President of the Serbian Tennis Federation (2011–2015).
