The lecture will set out the main history of the natural gas business relationship between Russia and Europe, the recent developments and issues that have arisen around supply to and through Ukraine as well as regarding pricing and Russian investments mid- and downstream in Europe.

About

Marcel Kramer is currently a senior advisor to the Management of OAO Gazprom. Previously he served as Chief Executive Officer of the South Stream pipeline project. Before that, he was the Chairman of the Executive Board and Chief Executive Officer of Gasunie, a Dutch natural gas infrastructure and transportation company. As CEO of South Stream project, he was responsible for the permitting, financing, construction and operation of the project’s Black Sea section as well as its onshore sections in the territory of foreign countries.

Early in his career, he worked at the Oil and Coal Department of the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs, in oil- and gas-related positions at NATO Headquarters, Brussels and as the Head of the Oil Industry Division at the International Energy Agency in Paris. Kramer worked at Petro-Canada as Director, Crude Oil Supply and Trading, and held managerial positions with Statoil. In 2003 Kramer joined Gasunie as Managing Director, and since July 2005 served as Chairman of the Executive Board and Chief Executive Officer of Gasunie. In November 2007 Kramer was elected President of Gas Infrastructure Europe (GIE), the European association of companies operating and/or owning pipeline networks, LNG terminals and gas storage facilities. As CEO of South Stream project, he was responsible for the engineering, permitting, financing, construction and operation of the project’s Black Sea section as well as its onshore sections in the territory of foreign countries.
