A reception follows the lecture in the CES Atrium from 6:30-7:30pm.
Adam Bodnar is a constitutional lawyer and human rights activist, who has been at the forefront of defending the rule of law and judicial independence in Poland.
Bodnar will outline the Polish government's controversial measures to restrict judicial review and the operations of independent institutions, such as the country's prosecutor’s office, secret service, media, and courts. He will also discuss the European Court of Justice's injunction in October 2018 to stop a new law which would have given the Polish government the right to replace the Supreme Court's judges and effectively end its judicial independence.
